Serie A is the top division of Italian football, with twenty clubs each playing thirty-eight matches between August and May. Fixtures are spread across the weekend and into the evenings. Tickets are sold by the clubs; bring photo identification, as Italian grounds regularly ask at the turnstile for a document matching the name on the ticket.

About the Serie A

Italian stadiums are unlike the modern arenas elsewhere in Europe. Many clubs play in grounds built in the 1970s or earlier, with steep tiers, a lot of concrete and acoustics that are striking when the place is full. San Siro in Milan is the best-known example, but it holds for more grounds in the league.

The atmosphere comes from the curve behind the goals, where the organised support stands with banners, flags and singing that runs the length of the match. The gap between a marquee fixture and a midweek game against modest opposition is wider in Italy than in England: the first sells out, the second can leave the ground half empty.

For a visitor that works in your favour. Many Serie A matches have general availability, which makes the league more accessible than the Premier League. Derbies and European nights are a different matter. One practical point to remember: identity checks at the turnstile are stricter in Italy than elsewhere, so the name on the ticket has to match.

Tickets and hospitality for this competition

At Italian clubs we arrange both regular tickets and hospitality. Hospitality is most worthwhile in the larger grounds, where regular seats sit in the second or third tier, high above the pitch and up a steep climb. Watch the name requirement: Italian clubs often issue tickets in the holder's name and check this on entry, so give us the correct names of everyone travelling when you book.

  • Hospitality: € 120 to € 390 per person
  • Regular tickets: € 45 to € 370 per person

Ticketing and fixture dates

The fixture list appears before the season; kick-off times per round are set a few weeks ahead. Matches run from Friday to Monday, with a lot of evening fixtures.

Ticketing runs through the clubs. For midweek matches against smaller opposition there is usually general availability; for derbies, marquee fixtures and European nights it goes quickly. Tickets are frequently issued in the holder's name.

For an ordinary league match, booking a few weeks ahead is enough. For a derby or a European night, earlier is better.
