About AZ Alkmaar

The AFAS Stadion is a compact modern ground with the stands built tight around the pitch. AZ moved here in 2006 from the old Alkmaarderhout. The building is functional rather than spectacular, with short walking routes and a clear view from almost every seat.

AZ have established themselves just below the top of the Dutch league and play in Europe regularly. The club is known for its academy, so the starting eleven often includes young players who later move to bigger clubs. For a visitor wanting to see Dutch football beyond Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV, this is one of the more rewarding places to go.

Alkmaar is worth the trip in its own right. It is a historic town with a walkable centre and, on Friday mornings in season, the traditional cheese market. Combined with a forty-minute train ride from Amsterdam, that makes a match here an easy day out rather than a logistical exercise. Access to league matches runs through the club card system, and we arrange official tickets and hospitality with a confirmed seat.

Alkmaar, Netherlands

The AFAS Stadion is on the Stadionweg on the south side of Alkmaar, around three kilometres from the town centre. Buses run to the ground from Alkmaar station, while Alkmaar Zuid station is closer and quicker on matchdays. From Amsterdam Centraal the train takes about forty minutes. There is parking at the ground, but it fills before kick-off.

Hospitality at AZ Alkmaar

AZ offer official hospitality in the business lounges along the main stand, with catering before and after the match. For an international visitor the key difference is access: a regular ticket requires a Dutch club card, while a hospitality place is confirmed when you book. You also sit centrally along the side of the pitch, with a separate entrance and somewhere to eat and drink either side of the game.

  • Regular tickets from € 142 per person (indication)

This is the lowest price per type in our current range. The two figures may come from different fixtures, as prices vary considerably by opponent.

Practical information for matchday

Arrive an hour before kick-off. The ground sits outside the centre, so many supporters eat in Alkmaar itself first and travel out by bus or train. League matches fall at weekends, with kick-off times confirmed a few weeks ahead, and beer inside Dutch stadiums is usually low-alcohol. If you have time, the historic centre with the Waag weighing house is walkable from Alkmaar station, and the cheese market runs on Friday mornings in season.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a club card to watch AZ?

For regular league matches, yes. We arrange official tickets and hospitality with a confirmed seat, so you do not need a Dutch supporter pass of your own.

How much does an AZ ticket cost?

It varies by opponent and stand. This page shows the current starting price per type as soon as we have availability for a fixture.

How do I get to the AFAS Stadion?

Alkmaar Zuid station is closest to the ground, and buses also run from Alkmaar station. From Amsterdam Centraal the train takes about forty minutes.

Why visit AZ rather than one of the bigger clubs?

AZ play in Europe regularly and are known for their academy, so you often see young players before they move on. Alkmaar itself is a historic town worth a few hours.
