For a visitor that produces some of the best atmospheres in Europe, at a fraction of Premier League prices. Beer is served on the concourse, the terraces behind the goals are full well before kick-off, and the noise is sustained rather than reactive.

The catch is that tickets are scarce precisely because they are cheap. Clubs sell to members and season ticket holders first, and for the bigger fixtures little remains. One practical difference to note: European matches require all-seater configurations, which lowers the capacity and changes the feel of the evening compared with a league game. The fixture list appears before the season; kick-off times per round are set a few weeks ahead. Saturday matches usually start at 15:30 or 18:30 local time, with additional fixtures on Friday evening and Sunday.

Ticketing runs through the clubs, who sell to members and season ticket holders first. For the bigger fixtures the remainder goes quickly. Standing is permitted at league matches; European fixtures require seating and the capacity is lower.
