The Stadion An der Alten Försterei is the home of 1. FC Union Berlin, the club from Köpenick who play in the Bundesliga. Football has been played here since 1920. In 2008 and 2009 around 2,000 volunteers helped rebuild the ground themselves, and in 2013 a new main stand was added. For league matches it holds 22,012; just over 18,000 of those places are standing. The club want to expand the ground in the coming years.

The atmosphere is the big draw: terraces close to the pitch and a crowd that sings for the whole match. The big games are those against Germany's major clubs and the Berlin derby against Hertha BSC, when both clubs play in the same division. A well-known tradition is the Christmas carol singing in December, which fills the ground every year.

A Union match combines well with a weekend in Berlin. You fly into BER airport or travel by train to Berlin Hauptbahnhof; we can put together a tailor-made football trip with ticket, accommodation and transport. Tickets for ordinary league matches are scarce at Union; for the big matches even more so. We arrange official tickets and hospitality with a confirmed seat.

The stadium and how to get there

The Stadion An der Alten Försterei is in Köpenick, in the south-east of Berlin, on the north side of the Spree and about 14 kilometres from Alexanderplatz. The nearest S-Bahn station is Köpenick, on line S3; from there it is a ten to fifteen-minute walk to the ground. The S3 runs direct from Alexanderplatz, Ostbahnhof and Hauptbahnhof, among others. Trams 27, 60 and 67 stop at Alte Försterei, close to the ground.

Hospitality at Union Berlin

At Union, hospitality is based in the main stand, which holds almost all the seats in the ground. The difference with a regular ticket is the seat and the service: a reserved seat, a separate entrance and food and drink before and after the match. Because the ground is mainly standing and often sold out, hospitality here is a sure way to be there, especially for a corporate guest or a group.

Practical information for matchday

Travel by public transport, as parking around the ground is limited. From the centre the S3 journey to Köpenick takes about forty minutes; expect crowds at the station and on the trams afterwards. Come well before kick-off, as the atmosphere already builds as you walk in. Starting from BER airport or Berlin Hauptbahnhof, you can put together a tailor-made football trip with us, with ticket, accommodation and transport. If you want to make a few days of it, the old centre of Köpenick and central Berlin are a short S-Bahn ride away.
