The Freethielstadion is the home of SK Beveren, the yellow and blue club from the Waasland. The site began as a cycling track, named after its owner Frederik Thielemans. Football arrived in 1938, and in the 1970s the ground grew considerably. In 1979, 25,000 people watched a European semi-final against Barcelona there. Since the rebuild of 2008 and 2009 it has held 8,190.
In 2026 SK Beveren were promoted to the Belgian top flight, after five seasons in the second tier. That brings the big Belgian clubs back to the Freethiel. The ground is small and compact, with three covered stands close to the pitch. When it is full, that makes for an intimate atmosphere.
Beveren is close to Antwerp. By train it takes about twenty minutes from Antwerp-Central, and Brussels Airport is some 56 kilometres away. We can put together a tailor-made football trip with ticket, accommodation and transport. Tickets for ordinary league matches are often available; for the big matches it is different. We arrange official tickets and hospitality with a confirmed seat.
The Freethielstadion is on the Klapperstraat in Beveren, within walking distance of the centre. From the Grote Markt it is about a ten-minute walk. Beveren station is further away; allow about half an hour on foot from there. The IC train between Antwerp and Ghent stops in Beveren, with a direct connection to Antwerp-Central and Ghent. Around the stadium is a sports complex with several training pitches.
At SK Beveren, hospitality is based in the main stand, with business seats and skyboxes around the halfway line. The difference with a regular ticket is the seat and the service: a good seat and food and drink before and after the match. In a small ground like the Freethiel you are close to the pitch. That makes it a pleasant way to experience a match, especially for a corporate guest or a group.
Arrive in good time, especially when a big club visits. If you are travelling by train, allow for the walk from the station and check the last train back in advance, as fewer trains run after an evening match. An overnight stay in Beveren or Antwerp makes the trip more relaxed. We can put together a tailor-made football trip with ticket, accommodation and transport. If you want to make a day of it, Antwerp, with its old centre and the port, is a short distance away.
For ordinary league matches there is often availability. For visits from Club Brugge, Anderlecht or Antwerp they go quickly, as the ground is small; a package with a confirmed seat gives certainty then.
The price varies by opponent and by stand. This page shows the current from-price per type once we have availability for a match.
