Bramall Lane is considered the oldest major stadium in the world still hosting professional football. The ground opened in 1855 as a cricket ground; the first football match followed in 1862. In 1878 one of the first matches under floodlights was played here. Sheffield United, nicknamed The Blades, have played here since they were founded in 1889. The stadium is all-seater and holds just over 32,000.

The big rivals are Sheffield Wednesday, on the other side of the city. When both clubs are in the same division, the Steel City derby is the match of the year in the city. In 2026/27 Sheffield United are in the Championship. The four stands are close to the pitch, with the Kop behind the goal as the home end of the regular support.

Sheffield is easy to reach: from Manchester Airport the train gets you to Sheffield in just over an hour, and there are direct trains from London St Pancras. We can put together a tailor-made football trip with ticket, accommodation and transport. Tickets for ordinary league matches are often available; for the big matches it is different. We arrange official tickets and hospitality with a confirmed seat.

The stadium and how to get there

Bramall Lane is in the Highfield area, just south of Sheffield city centre. Sheffield station is about one and a half kilometres away; the walk takes fifteen minutes at most. The nearest tram stop is Granville Road, on the blue and purple Supertram lines, about a ten-minute walk away. Several buses also run from the centre to the ground.

Hospitality at Sheffield United

At Sheffield United, hospitality is based in the lounges and corporate areas of Bramall Lane. The difference with a regular ticket is the seat and the service: a good seat and food and drink in a lounge before and after the match. In an old ground with this much character it is a comfortable way to experience the game, especially for a corporate guest or a group.

Practical information for matchday

Come well before kick-off. Parking near the ground is limited, so travel by train, tram or on foot from the centre. After the final whistle the route to the station is busy, so bear that in mind if you have a train to catch. If you are flying in, you will usually land at Manchester Airport and continue to Sheffield by train, often changing at Manchester Piccadilly. We can put together a tailor-made football trip with ticket, accommodation and transport.
