Anfield is one of the few grounds where the atmosphere itself is the reason to go. The Kop, the stand behind the goal, sings You'll Never Walk Alone before kick-off, and that moment is what brings many visitors to Liverpool in the first place. The stadium sits inside a residential area, with terraced houses running right up to the stands, which gives a matchday a completely different feel from a modern arena on the edge of a city.

Liverpool is one of the hardest clubs in Europe to buy tickets for through official channels. Home matches sell out as a matter of course and sales run through a membership system in which loyalty points decide who gets priority. Anyone looking to attend a single match will not realistically get through that queue.

Anfield is on Anfield Road, roughly three kilometres north-east of Liverpool city centre. Buses run towards the ground from Liverpool Lime Street station, and on matchdays a shuttle service operates from Sandhills station. Walking from the centre takes around forty-five minutes. Liverpool John Lennon Airport lies south-east of the city, about half an hour from the stadium by road.

Hospitality at Liverpool FC

Liverpool offers several official hospitality packages at Anfield, spread across the Main Stand and the expanded Anfield Road stand. The difference from a regular ticket is certainty and service: a guaranteed seat in a good position, lounge access before and after the match, and usually a meal and drinks. A regular ticket buys you the seat and nothing else. For companies the practical difference matters most, because your group sits together and can talk before kick-off.

Practical information for matchday

Arrive well before kick-off; two hours is not excessive. The streets around the ground fill up and the build-up is part of the experience. The traditional pubs are on Anfield Road and Walton Breck Road, and they are busy long before the match. If you want to do something first, the Albert Dock and the Beatles Story museum are on the waterfront in the centre. Bear in mind that Premier League kick-off times can move at short notice for television.
