Achter de Kazerne is a true football ground in the middle of the city. The name, meaning 'behind the barracks', comes from the barracks that once stood next to the pitch. KV Mechelen have played here since 1911. Between 2015 and 2020 the stands were renovated step by step, with a new main stand in 2019. The ground now holds 16,672, close to the pitch.

KV Mechelen, also known as Malinwa, play in the Belgian First Division. The club have a rich European history: in 1988 Mechelen won the European Cup Winners' Cup, beating Ajax in the final, and then the European Super Cup against PSV. The supporters are known for their loyalty and for the atmosphere in the large standing section.

Mechelen is a beautiful old city between Brussels and Antwerp, with a compact centre. By train it is about ten minutes from Brussels Airport, and a quarter of an hour to half an hour from Brussels and Antwerp. We also put together tailor-made football trips with ticket, accommodation and transport. Tickets for ordinary league matches are often available; for the big matches it is different. We arrange official tickets and hospitality with a confirmed seat.

The stadium and how to get there

Achter de Kazerne is on Kleine Nieuwedijk, on the north-east side of the centre of Mechelen. The nearest railway station is Mechelen-Nekkerspoel; from there it is just under a kilometre on foot. Not all trains stop at Nekkerspoel. From Mechelen main station, De Lijn bus line 3 runs towards the ground. By car you reach Mechelen via the E19 between Brussels and Antwerp.

Hospitality at KV Mechelen

At KV Mechelen, hospitality is based in the skyboxes and business seats of the renovated stadium, mainly in the main stand from 2019. The difference with a regular ticket is the seat and the service: a good seat, a separate entrance and food and drink in a lounge before and after the match. In a compact stadium close to the pitch it is a comfortable way to experience the game, especially for a corporate guest or a group.

Practical information for matchday

Come well before kick-off. Travel by train if you can, as parking near the ground is limited and the surrounding streets are busy after the match. If you are flying in, Brussels Airport is the nearest airport; the train to Mechelen takes about ten minutes. We can put together a tailor-made football trip with ticket, accommodation and transport. If you want to make a day of it, the Grote Markt and St Rumbold's Cathedral are within walking distance of the stadium.
