Ashton Gate has been the home of Bristol City since 1904. The ground itself is older and opened in 1887. Between 2014 and 2016 the stadium was largely rebuilt, including the new Lansdown Stand. Today it holds about 27,000. The club are known as the Robins, play in red and white and compete in the Championship in the 2026/27 season. The rugby club Bristol Bears also play at Ashton Gate.
The traditional rivals are Bristol Rovers, from the same city. Other big rivals are Cardiff City, across the Severn; a match between the two is called the Severnside derby. Then the ground is full and the atmosphere at its peak. After a home win the crowd hears Drink Up Thy Zider by the Wurzels, a band from the area.
Bristol is a lively port city with an old harbour, plenty of pubs and cafés and the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge. From London Paddington a direct train takes about an hour and forty minutes to Bristol Temple Meads, and Bristol Airport has flights to destinations including Amsterdam. We also put together tailor-made football trips, with ticket, accommodation and transport. Tickets for ordinary league matches are often available; for the big matches it is different. We arrange official tickets and hospitality with a confirmed seat.
Ashton Gate is on Ashton Road, in the south-west of Bristol, just south of the River Avon and about three kilometres from the centre. The nearest station is Parson Street, about a fifteen-minute walk away; Bedminster station is an alternative with step-free access. From the main station, Bristol Temple Meads, it is about a fifty-minute walk, but on matchdays a shuttle bus runs. The MetroBus M2 and several city buses also stop nearby. From the Harbourside it is about a half-hour walk to the ground.
At Bristol City, hospitality is based in the restaurants, lounges and executive boxes of the ground. The difference with a regular ticket is the seat and the service: a good seat, a separate entrance and food and drink before and after the match. In a modern stadium with four enclosed stands it is a comfortable way to experience the game, especially for a corporate guest or a group.
Come well before kick-off, as the buses and the trains to Parson Street are busy before the match. Public transport is the best option; there is little parking at the ground and the car park on Winterstoke Road must be booked in advance. From April to September, Bristol Ferry Boats sail from Temple Meads and the centre to a stop about a fifteen-minute walk away. If you are coming from further afield, a direct train runs from London Paddington to Bristol, and Bristol Airport has flights to destinations including Amsterdam. We can arrange ticket, accommodation and transport together as a tailor-made football trip.
For ordinary league matches there is often availability. For the Severnside derby against Cardiff City and for matches against big clubs they go quickly; a package with a confirmed seat gives certainty then.
The price varies by opponent and by stand. This page shows the current from-price per type once we have availability for a match.
Take the train to Parson Street station; from there it is about a fifteen-minute walk to the ground. On matchdays a shuttle bus runs from Bristol Temple Meads, and the MetroBus M2 and city buses also stop nearby.
That is the name of the match between Bristol City and Cardiff City. The two cities lie on opposite sides of the Severn, one in England and the other in Wales. It is one of the fiercest fixtures of the season.
Yes. The rugby club Bristol Bears also play their home matches at Ashton Gate. The stadium is also used for concerts and other events.
