Ajax tickets and hospitality

When it opened in 1996 the Johan Cruijff ArenA was the first stadium in Europe with a fully retractable roof, and it became the template for the generation of grounds that followed. It sits in Amsterdam Zuidoost among offices, a concert hall and shops, with a railway station directly alongside.

The atmosphere comes from the stands behind the goals, with section 410 the most vocal part of the ground. Because the stadium is generously proportioned and the roof is often open, the sound is less concentrated than at De Kuip, but for European nights and matches against Feyenoord or PSV it fills up and gets loud.

For international visitors Ajax is the best-known Dutch club, thanks to the academy and the playing style. Access to league matches runs through the club card, a personal supporter pass that is difficult to obtain for a single visit. Getting there is as easy as it gets: twenty minutes by direct train from the airport.

The stadium and how to get there

The Johan Cruijff ArenA is on the ArenA Boulevard in Amsterdam Zuidoost, around eight kilometres from the city centre. Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA station adjoins the ground and is fifteen minutes by train from Amsterdam Centraal; metro lines 50 and 54 also stop there. From Schiphol airport a direct train takes about twenty minutes, which makes this one of the most accessible stadiums in Europe.

Hospitality at Ajax

Ajax offer official hospitality in the business lounges and skyboxes on the middle level of the ArenA, with catering before and after the match. For an international visitor the key difference is access: a regular ticket requires a Dutch club card, while a hospitality place is confirmed when you book. You also sit centrally with a view of the halfway line rather than high in the second tier, and use a separate entrance away from the general queues.

Practical information for matchday

Arrive an hour to ninety minutes before kick-off. The restaurants and bars along the ArenA Boulevard fill early, and the station is right next door. The platform is busy afterwards but extra trains run. The roof closes in bad weather, which noticeably tightens the acoustics. League matches fall at weekends, with kick-off times confirmed a few weeks ahead. Beer served inside Dutch grounds is usually low-alcohol. Central Amsterdam is fifteen minutes away by train.
