The Vonovia Ruhrstadion is a proper football ground: a single ring of stands, all covered and close to the pitch. Football has been played on this site on Castroper Straße since 1911. The current stadium took shape between 1976 and 1979 and holds 26,000 for league matches. The east stand, with its terracing, is the heart of the home support.

In the 2026/27 season VfL Bochum play in the 2. Bundesliga. The club belong to the Ruhr, where Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 are the historic rivals. A fixed ritual is the song "Bochum" by Herbert Grönemeyer, which plays before every home match and is sung by the whole stadium.

Bochum is easy to reach. The Hauptbahnhof has ICE and IC connections with many major cities, and the S-Bahn runs directly from Düsseldorf airport to Bochum; Dortmund airport is also close by. スタジアムとアクセス

The Vonovia Ruhrstadion is at Castroper Straße 145, in the Grumme district, north-east of Bochum city centre. From Bochum Hauptbahnhof, Stadtbahn lines 308 and 318 towards Gerthe or Schürbankstraße take about three minutes to the Planetarium stop, close to the stadium. On foot it takes about twenty minutes from the station, via the Ostring and Castroper Straße. Next to the stadium are the Starlight Express theatre and the RuhrCongress. By car, take the Bochum-Stadion exit on the A40.

At VfL Bochum, hospitality is based in the business seats and boxes of the ground. The difference with a regular ticket is the seat and the service: a good seat, a separate entrance and food and drink in a lounge before and after the match. In a compact stadium where the crowd sits close to the pitch it is a comfortable way to take in the atmosphere, especially for a corporate guest or a group.

Come well before kick-off, not least to hear the song "Bochum" by Herbert Grönemeyer. Travel by Stadtbahn or walk from the Hauptbahnhof, as the roads around the ground are busy before and after the match. If you are coming from further afield, Düsseldorf and Dortmund are the nearest airports and the ICE stops in Bochum.
