Portman Road is one of the oldest football grounds in England. Ipswich Town have played there since 1884. Around 2000 two new stands were built, named after the two greatest managers in the club's history: Sir Alf Ramsey and Sir Bobby Robson. Both also have a statue at the ground. Under Ramsey, Ipswich were champions of England in 1962; under Robson, the club won the UEFA Cup in 1981.

The biggest match of the year is the East Anglian derby against Norwich City, when both clubs are in the same division. Then the ground is full and the atmosphere is at its peak. In the 2026/27 season Ipswich play in the Premier League, and the matches against England's big clubs also draw large crowds.

Ipswich is a compact town, with the station and the centre within walking distance of the ground. Direct trains run from London Liverpool Street to Ipswich; the nearest airport is London Stansted. Portman Road is a short walk from Ipswich town centre. Ipswich station is about 450 metres away; the walk takes under ten minutes. The ground has four stands: the Sir Bobby Robson Stand, the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand, the Cobbold Stand and the West Stand. If you come by car, you can park at one of the Park & Ride sites on the edge of town and continue by bus.

At Ipswich Town, hospitality is based in the lounges and business seats of the ground. The difference with a regular ticket is the seat and the service: a good seat, a separate entrance and food and drink in a lounge before and after the match. In a stadium of this size you sit close to the pitch. For a corporate guest or a group it is a comfortable way to experience the game.

試合当日の実用情報

Come well before kick-off, as it gets busy around the station and at the entrances. Travel by train if you can: the ground is within walking distance of Ipswich station and street parking around the stadium is limited. From London Liverpool Street the journey takes just over an hour. A direct bus runs from London Stansted to Ipswich; by car it is about an hour and a half.
