The Fritz-Walter-Stadion is on the Betzenberg, the hill above Kaiserslautern, and supporters simply call it the Betze. Football has been played here since 1920. Since 1985 the stadium has carried the name of Fritz Walter, captain of the German team that became world champions in 1954. It was thoroughly redeveloped for the 2006 World Cup. It holds 49,327, with almost 15,000 standing places on the west stand.
1. FC Kaiserslautern have been German champions four times: in 1951, 1953, 1991 and 1998, the last title straight after promotion. The club also won the DFB-Pokal twice, in 1990 and 1996. In the 2026/27 season Kaiserslautern play in the 2. Bundesliga, as do Karlsruher SC; the Südwest-Derby between the two clubs is one of the highlights of the season.
Kaiserslautern Hauptbahnhof is on the fast line between Paris and Frankfurt, with ICE and TGV trains, and has S-Bahn connections to Mannheim and Heidelberg.
