The Stade Abbé-Deschamps is a ground with plenty of history. It opened in 1918 and is named after Abbé Deschamps, the priest who founded the club. The stands are close to the pitch and the Yonne flows right past. With about 17,500 seats it is small for Ligue 1, and that gives it an intimate atmosphere.

Auxerre are a remarkable club. Under Guy Roux, who ran the club for decades, a small town in Burgundy became a fixture in French football. The high point was the 1995/96 season, with the league title and the Coupe de France. In all, the club have won the cup four times. Auxerre's academy produced players such as Eric Cantona and Djibril Cissé.

The train from Paris Bercy takes about two hours to Auxerre, so the town is easy to reach via the Paris airports. The Stade Abbé-Deschamps is on the Route de Vaux, on the banks of the Yonne, just outside the historic centre of Auxerre. From the cathedral it is about a fifteen-minute walk. Auxerre-Saint-Gervais railway station is around twenty minutes away on foot. By car, leave the A6 at the Auxerre Nord or Auxerre Sud exit and follow the signs to the centre and the stadium.

At Auxerre, hospitality is based in the business seats and reception areas of the ground. The difference with a regular ticket is the seat and the service: a good seat, a separate entrance and food and drink before and after the match. In a small stadium where the crowd sits close to the pitch, it is a comfortable way to experience the game, especially for a corporate guest or a group.

試合当日の実用情報

Come well before kick-off. The ground is within walking distance of the centre, so you are better off leaving the car behind; after the match the roads around the Route de Vaux are busy. For the journey, the train from Paris Bercy is a handy choice; it takes about two hours. If you want to make a day of it, the Cathédrale Saint-Étienne and the old town along the Yonne are well worth a visit.
