The Estádio do Fontelo is the home of Académico de Viseu, the club of the city of Viseu. The ground opened in 1928, which makes it one of the older football stadiums in Portugal. It holds almost 7,000, close to the pitch. For the return to the top flight, the stadium was given a new pitch, new floodlights, a big screen and a refurbished hospitality area, among other things, in 2026.

In 2026/27 Académico de Viseu are back in the Primeira Liga, for the first time since the late 1980s. The visits of Benfica, FC Porto and Sporting are the big days of the season. The small ground is then full and most of the crowd is behind the home side. That atmosphere makes a match here different from one in the big stadiums of Lisbon and Porto.

Viseu is an old city with a cathedral on its highest point, narrow streets and the Dão wine region all around. The nearest major airport is Porto; from there the coach takes about two hours to Viseu. The Estádio do Fontelo is on the edge of the centre of Viseu, next to the Parque do Fontelo, the largest green space in the city. From the historic centre with the cathedral and the Grão Vasco museum it is a short walk. Viseu has no metro or tram; most visitors come on foot, by city bus or by car. The city's bus station is on Avenida Dr. António José de Almeida.

At Académico de Viseu, hospitality is small-scale, in keeping with a ground of this size. In the 2026 redevelopment the hospitality area was refurbished and enlarged. The difference with a regular ticket is the seat and the service: a good seat in the main stand and food and drink before and after the match. Especially for the matches against the big clubs from Lisbon and Porto, a package with a confirmed seat is a relaxed way to experience the game.

試合当日の実用情報

Come well before kick-off, as the ground is small and the entrances get busy for big matches. Ideally stay in or near the centre; then you can walk to the stadium and back. If you fly, you will usually land in Porto and continue to Viseu by coach or hire car; by coach it takes about two hours. We can arrange ticket, accommodation and transport together in a tailor-made football trip. If you want to make a day of it, the cathedral, the old town and a wine estate in the Dão are well worth a visit.
