The Stadion der Freundschaft is the home of FC Energie Cottbus. The stadium is on the Spree in the Sandow district and opened in 1930; it has been redeveloped several times since. It holds 22,528, of whom almost half on terracing. It currently carries the sponsor name LEAG Energie Stadion.
Energie Cottbus were founded in 1966. In 1997 the club reached the DFB-Pokal final as a Regionalliga side, and Cottbus played several seasons in the Bundesliga. In 2025/26 Energie finished second in the 3. Liga and were promoted. In the 2026/27 season the club play in the 2. Bundesliga, as do Dynamo Dresden and Hertha BSC; those matches matter a great deal in the region.
Cottbus has an hourly regional train to Berlin. The nearest major airport is Berlin Brandenburg, about an hour away.
